What is SEO?
Seo stands for search engine optimization ( search engine optimization in Dutch). SEO is a process by which website optimizations are performed to improve usability for visitors and search engines. Google is also one of those users. To make your website findable, you need to make sure that Google can understand your website and read your content correctly.
How does SEO work?
Search engines are tasked with giving users the best possible experience for what the person is looking for. They do this by showing websites that are relevant and answer the search question someone has.
How does a search engine work?
To optimize your website, the first thing you need to know is how a search engine works.
Search engines consist of 3 parts:
- Crawlers ( Also known as Spiders and Bots )
- The Index
- The algorithm
A crawler ( spider ) can be thought of as a spider that travels the web. The crawler does this through links on a website. Each link connects a page. A crawler searches websites for content (the subject of landing pages) and looks at how the content is technically structured. For example, consider how the title tags, meta descriptions, headings (H1 to H6) , URL structure, Image alt texts and anchor texts are set up. When a crawler scans a website it stores the HTML version of a page in a huge database. This database is also known as the index. The index is updated with new information about the Web site each time the crawler passes by again. The algorithm then uses the index to judge how a Web site is ranked in the search results.
